This opera is meant for adults - NOT children. It does involve many of the Grimm Brother fairy tales, however it is an adult re-telling of them mixed with the very funny and racey poetry of Anne Sexton. References to drugs and sexual material are often.
In a fabled 70's nightclub, grown-up versions of Grimm's fairy tales unfold around a middle-aged woman facing madness. Characters morph, morals twist, and fantasy meets reality in this series of adult psychological vignettes. Disturbing and funny, this two-act chamber opera is based on the wickedly clever book by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Anne Sexton. Performed in English.
